Movies or tv shows on DVD

Hola mis amigos

I'm percolating a longer post for later today, possibly tomorrow. But for now, something I've been meaning to ask:

Are there any movies or tv shows that you all have seen recently that are out on dvd, and are worth watching? Better obviously if you loved them, but even if you just thought it was interesting.

The wife and I have been in a little bit of a Netflix drought recently. Actually, we haven't made it through any of the movies we've rented, and have in fact hated all of them. (Yes, I'm talking about you Superbad, you pile of crap you.)

I'll start in the comments, but I'm hoping we can get some inspiration..

I know I've talked about it before, but Stranger than Fiction was probably my favorite movie that we've watched recently, possibly because it was so surprising that we liked it.

If you like him, and his humor, you'll get a kick out of Ricky Gervais's HBO show EXTRAS. He manages to get some great special guest appearances. In the first season Kate Winslet gives advice on how to talk dirty.

An Alfred Hitchcock movie that you probably haven't seen, and is amazing in its execution, is Rope. The entire movie takes place in an apartment during a dinner party and consists of only a couple shots strung together by zooming in then out on a character's back. There is also no soundtrack. The only time there is back ground music is when someone is playing the piano in the scene. Rope is Hitchcock doing some of his best work.

I haven't seen it, but I've heard the very short lived television show Firefly was an entertaining sci-fi western. It was later made into the it's-good-for-what-it-is movie Serenity.

Steve, I know you've seen these b/c I borrowed them from you but I really enjoyed Stranger than Fiction and The Prestige.

Next up, The Last Waltz.

Easy one Steve-o! Gilmore Girls, Jeopardy, and the Hills!! Like, duh?
No really, I never watch movies due to lack of time or probably more effort but I actually watched two movies this past week. Before John left, Liz, he, and I watched Sicko by Roger Moore. Wasn't sure how I would feel about it but it is pretty good. Nothing really earth shattering but stillgot me a little worked up about "the man".
Last night Liz and I watched Half Nelson with Ryan Gosling. He plays a history teacher who has a lot of potential but unfortunately is a crackhead. Not the best movie I have ever seen but it will encourage me to stop making jokes to my classes about me being a crackhead. I may be a bit crazy and out there but just like my sister Whitney Houston declared, "crack is whack".

You MUST watch HBO's big love or Showtime's Dexter....If you're a fan of polygamy or serial killers, these shows will be right up your alley! Big Love was recently nominated for a golden globe for best TV drama and Bill Paxton (the main dude in the show) was also nominated for best actor in a drama...not that nominations mean anything, of course...but don't take my word for it!

The new Boure flick, supremacy, ultimatum, whatever. Edge of seat action and enough plot to suspend your disbelief.
